Before taking up video, I learned the fundamentals of lens based media through photography: from framing and composition to exposure and lighting techniques. I'm at home with both digital and analogue formats.

I offer stills documentation of video projects and dedicated photography; specialising in natural lighting, bold compositions and working with vintage camera lenses for unique, striking and powerful images.

I use hybrid mirrorless cameras for the majority of my work, which are highly versatile and built for video and photography together, making it simple to switch between projects; from video to stills, and back.  This is really handy for combined working; creating a video and documenting the process at the same time, for example.

'The wonderful and very talented Matt Robinson captured me in one of my favourite places doing one of my favourite things, seed sowing in our propagation tunnel. It is very rare I like pics of myself but this one fills me with such joy.'

'Mathew has been instrumental in capturing our ceramics workshops beautifully through photos and showcasing the wider vibrant community spirit. Working with Mathew has been a pleasure; he is not only punctual and respectful but also enthusiastic and fun to collaborate with, making the process seamless and enjoyable'

Over the years, I've experimented with many different types of analogue film formats. Often these yield some surprising results, especially when paired with older cameras, such as my Lomo compact, Sigma SLR and Halina Viceroy 120.  Below are some of the results.
